I do not ask that you plant signposts by my path;

Or that you blaze a trail for my pilgrim feet.

But I would have you walk with me awhile,

that you simply be there.

Knowing our dreams may take us down different paths;

That our visions may wake no echo with our separate hearts;

Still, I would have you there,

adding to mine your prayers and your visions.

Dreaming your dreams and walking tall

to the drumbeat of tomorrow.

Call to me, my friend,

out of the singularity of your being.

Draw forth my uniqueness, as I affirm your right to be.

And when, with firmer step,

I take the courage you give me,

and follow the path of my vision;

When I see you caught up in the glory of your quest,

free in the bondage of God’s love.

It will be good to have been here together!
